IIICT Overview

The Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science (BYCAS) was re-established in June 2012 by an act of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly (BSHA) to provide Middle-Level manpower in Arts and Science as well as Engineering to meet the demand by the Business, Engineering and Technology sectors of our economy.

International Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IIICT) is a BYCAS owned Institute under the Centre for Continuing Education designed to address middle-level manpower development through professional certifications by training and educating school leavers, graduates of diverse disciplines on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) courses by adequately preparing them for the challenges of an increasing IT-dependent world. Therefore, the Institute has the capability to all considered courses, while considering industrial, business and technology requirements.  The IIICT commenced its maiden session on 4th November 2012 for the 2012/2013 session with a total enrolment of over 600 candidates for the first session.

We have serene learning environment with highly experienced professionals to educate all our students to achieve competitive edge in computing and in career development. However, our labs are with state-of-the-art facilities especially, multimedia equipment, laptops and all-in-one computers for easy learning processes.

Our course modules are tailored towards professionalism and entrepreneurial development of candidates through industry-oriented training methodology using Model Centre Learning Architecture (MCLA) approach.

The Institute is presently running under Public-Private-Partnership arrangement with an Indigenous I.T. firm with vast professional experience. However, the Institute is powered by TechEdge Global Services Limited for effective service delivery at all times.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Three (3) O/Level credits in SSCE, or Equivalents.
  2. Obtain Application Form through designated Bank.
  3. Payment of the required fees on or before commencement of course.
  4. Completion of all documentation for the records.

Programme Duration:

Six (6) Months of intensive learning including assessments and research seminar presentation. However, Industrial training is required to enhance student performance skills to be acceptable under employability skills in industrial, business and technology environment.

    1. Concept Session: This is a classroom session where emphasis is placed on teaching the fundamental concepts thoroughly. It deals with the - what is, Why are we studying the topic and where can we use it.
    2. Demonstration Session: This is where instructions and learning process are made by the Lecturer with clear demonstration approach while the participants follow through the audio-visuals presentation.
    3. Guided Practical Session: Concepts learnt are put into practice in the lab by the students under the guide by the lecturer or assigned lab technologists where learning is made simple and self-actualization of processes.
    4. Unguided Practical Session: this session has to be performed by the student with less supervision or without any supervision thereby enabling the student to standalone for better performance.
    5. Show Identity Cards on request during study sessions.
    6. Please do not make or receive calls in class.
    7. Avoid loitering, noise making, drinking and eating in the classroom/Lab.
    8. Late coming is highly prohibited. Time is money – Be punctual.
    9. Quarrelling, fighting and stealing are not allowed.
    10. 80% attendance is required. Please sign the attendance register daily.
    11. Visitors are not allowed during study sessions except on critical basis.
    12. Endeavour to pay up all required fees, for debtors are not allowed to continue.
    13. Simple and modest dressings are highly required at all times.
    14. Playing of music and games in class/lab are highly prohibited.
    15. Adhere to all rules and regulations under the BYCAS Handbook.

Our Approach:

The training process employed at the institute is the multi-modal teaching methodology that we are known for, called the 1+1+1+1 Methodology. The process takes the student through these four sessions:

Library Service:

All students of IIICT upon admission into the Institute have express permission to register with the Library Department of BYCAS. Endeavour to adhere to all rules and regulations of the Library Department.

Medical Facilities:

There is a medical centre for the treatment of members of the college community. Cases that are serious are referred to approved government hospital.

Sports, Games and Recreation:

The College takes keen interest in the student’s health, fitness and welfare. It encourages all students and staff to take part in recreational activities and to participate in well-known games and athletics competitions. Programmes of activities are organization through the Students Affairs Unit and the Sports Committee.


Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)

The SIWES is a skill-training programme designed to expose and prepare students for the work environment they are likely to meet after graduation. The scheme is also designed to expose students to work method and experience in handling industrial equipment and machinery. The unit allocates students to various IT organizations and can also make their own arrangements for industrial attachment and forward same to the unit for necessary documentation. Students are expected to undergo industrial trainings for personal development.

Graduation Ceremony:

The college also conducts graduation ceremonies during which conferment of awards, certificates and honours are made as approved by the Academic Board and Council. Substantial fees are paid by students concerning graduation gown and graduation fees.

Student Accommodation:

The College or the Institute provides NO hostel accommodation for students for now. Students are therefore required to make personal arrangements.


Discipline, Conduct and General Assessment

All students of IIICT upon admission into the Institute are expected to obey the formal channels of communication by writing to The Rector of the College (BYCAS) through The Director/Consultant, I.I.I.C.T. on Academic Mattes or on matters of General Welfare.

The Institute prohibits behaviours which in its opinion are inimical to academic growth. Such behaviours include assault on staff and students, consumption or sales of drugs, alcohol and smoking and cultism; these offences attract outright suspension or dismissal and are punishable by law.


Examination Conduct:

As a general rule, all students must be seated thirty (30) minutes to the commencement of all examination and are not eligible to write the examinations after thirty (30) minutes into the examinations. The Institute frowns against bad conduct before, during and after any examination seriously and does not take it with levity. Cases of Examination malpractice if proven are liable to suspension or dismissal.

Professional Examinations:

Students are trained to understand all required course contents that will lead to professionalism. At the end of the programmes students are enjoined to register for Computer Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) examination on Foundation I and Foundation II to qualify for NBTE approved National Diploma (ND) to attain level 5 & 6 in the Civil Service Career Scheme. Also, students will be encouraged to partake on Microsoft, CompTIA A+, Server + as well as other professional bodies. Students can also register for Institute of Data Processing Management (IDPM) of Nigeria examination which is an approved professional body for required qualification achievements.
